Hola! Hope everyone is doing great today. Hispanic Heritage Month is going strong across the country.
A special Saludo! to our Amigos at Pfizer, Inc. I was keynote speaker yesterday for their Hispanic Heritage celebracion.
They are very involved in promoting their multi-cultural environment and sensitivity to Latino issues.
Felicidades! The Chalupa Rules is always proud and excited to highlight businesses that are culturally aware.

The Shrimp that Falls Asleep is Swept Away by the Current.
This proverb can be found on the back of playing cards related to the traditonal Mexican game of Loteria (or Chalupa as we called it in South Texas.)
Is your life filled with unreturned phone calls and opportunities you ignore? Perhaps you are just floating along in life instead of swimming vigorously toward every wonderful possiblity that comes your way. Don't fall asleep in the waters of good fortune and potential. If you do, the current will simply sweep you away.

Este dicho tradicional se puede encontrar en las barajas del juego tradicional Mexicano, La Loteria.

Hola Amigos!
Hope everyone is doing great today. A special Hola to my friends at JP Morgan Chase in New York City.
I had the honor of addressing their group called Adelante last night. They are an amazing group of Latinos who are very much involved in their comunidad.
Thanks to you at Adelante for giving me the honor of participating in your Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta!
It's great to see corporate America involved in bringing diversity to the work place. What a great night! Many different culturas were represented and that multi-cultural environment is a wonderful thing.

Hispanic Heritage Month is the perfect time to showcase this "handcrafted" Chalupa Rule.
The image for this rule is La Sirena, the Mermaid. A mermaid is perfectly comfortable surviving in two elements; air and water. Just like the mermaid we can swim in our culture and navigate the landscape of life in the United States. Holding on to your "flavor", your culture whatever that may be can be compatible with living in the United States.
Dress up your entire life in the colors and textures of your culture. Swim in your culture. Show it off to the world.
Fill your house or apartment with handcrafts and art from your culture. Talk to your children about your heritage.
Come on in. The cultural waters are fine!

A special saludo today to my friends in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was keynote speaker for the Greater Cincinnati Scholarship Fund Gala. They raised a tremendous amount of money and awareness for Latino Educational Issues.

My book, "The Chalupa Rules" includes the wisdom of traditional Spanish proverbs, "hand-crafted" rules of life and personal advice from my experience as a survivor of poverty, domestic violence and discrimination.

Chalupa Rule of the Day: from: "The Chalupa Rules" (Plume)
Good Grades Will Never Disappear
Los buenos grados nunca se van a acabar.
Unlike allowance money that usually disappears as soon as you get it, good grades are here to stay. They will never vanish from your report card. Be assued the "A" or "B" you earned in the first grade is still there.
You use them when you apply for college scholarships. You use them when you apply the knowledge they brought you in your workplace. Use the bounty of those good grades all you want; they will never disappear.
An "A" or "B" is like money in the bank. They add up to financial aid for college, wisdom for work and confidence in life.
You can always spend a dollar, watch it vanish never to be seen again. You cannot spend a good grade that way. You can use it over and over and it will never run out.

No como el dinero que casi siempre se desaparece tan presto que lo recibe, un buen grado nunca se desaparece.
Un dolar siempre se puede gastar facilmente.
Pero un buen grado es como oro. Se puede utilizar para recibir becas del colegio. La sabiduria de un buen grado se puede usar en su trabajo. La cosecha de buenos grados siempre permanecera'.
Es como tener dinero en el banco.
Un buen grado se puede usar miles de veces y nunca se acabara'.
